• MEET THE FOUNDER:

    JASON ANDER

  • I've always been drawn to design. Growing up with an architect father and an attorney mother who renovated homes throughout Los Angeles, my parents welcomed me into design decisions and conversations about proportion, balance, and the transformation of physical spaces. We would buy what my parents called "the worst house in the best neighborhood" and turn it into something beautiful. Those before-and-after moments left a lasting impression on me.

My obsession with fashion design began early as well—my first job was at J.Crew, where my entire paycheck promptly went back to the store. I absorbed everything like a sponge: attended trunk shows, fawned over visual merchandisers doing their thing, and constantly daydreamed about my own fashion future. This early immersion in retail was all-consuming and laid the foundation for what would later become JB Ander.

  • Design isn't just something I studied—it's something I've lived with my entire life. In the 2010s, I channeled this passion into a men's style blog as a creative outlet alongside my marketing career. And yes, I developed what friends teasingly call a "shoe problem"—though I prefer to think of it as an appreciation for craftsmanship and variety.

When I find something that fascinates me, I dive in completely. I can't just have five pairs of shoes—I want to understand every variation, feel the subtle differences in materials, and appreciate how small design choices create entirely different experiences.

ITALIAN INFLUENCE

My mother's Italian heritage gave me a natural connection to Italian design philosophy, but it was my time studying in Florence that truly transformed my understanding of craftsmanship. Living there immersed me in a world where art, architecture, and fashion aren't separate disciplines but different expressions of the same creative spirit.

I took courses in Florentine culture and Renaissance arts, but equally valuable were the daily walks through a city where masterful design is everywhere—from centuries-old buildings to the window displays of modern boutiques. This experience continues to influence JB Ander today, with our chief designer also having studied in Florence and our production now based in a family-owned factory outside Venice.

FINDING MY PATH

My career in marketing at companies like Hulu, Paramount, and TikTok taught me invaluable lessons about building brands and connecting with audiences. But despite working in creative industries, I found myself using only a fraction of my creative energy.

During a particularly challenging period, my partner Brent asked a simple but profound question: "If you could do anything else, what would it be?" The answer came naturally—creating a men's fashion brand focused on exceptional footwear. When Brent reminded me that "you have free will. You can literally decide to go in any other direction," something clicked.

The idea for JB Ander was born over dinner, with Brent (whose initial forms the "B" in our name) providing not just encouragement but practical insight from his experience with another successful fashion entrepreneur.

BUILDING THE BRAND

The journey from concept to launch took three years of development, including an initial exploration into vegan men's footwear before ultimately embracing traditional Italian leather craftsmanship. Each step of this process taught me something valuable about materials, manufacturing, and what truly matters in creating something meaningful.

To me, JB Ander represents more than just footwear—it's about creating pieces that bring genuine joy every time you wear them. We're building a brand that balances sophisticated luxury with approachable warmth, honoring craftsmanship traditions while bringing fresh perspective to timeless designs.

What excites me most is creating something that becomes part of your personal style legacy—pieces that transcend fleeting trends and continue to bring confidence and pleasure for years to come. That's the true meaning of luxury to me: not exclusivity, but lasting quality and timeless design accessible to those who appreciate craftsmanship.

I hope our shoes bring as much joy to your life as creating them has brought to mine.
